University Rehabilitation Institute of the Republic of Slovenia

The University Rehabilitation Institute of the Republic of Slovenia.

The University Rehabilitation Institute of the Republic of Slovenia – Soča (URI-Soča), was founded in 1954. It is the central national health institute for full rehabilitation of patients with impaired movement and communication, and learning and occupational difficulties. It addresses the most complex issues in physical and rehabilitation medicine at the secondary and tertiary levels of healthcare in relation to the use of technical aids and vocational and occupational rehabilitation.

Comprehensive rehabilitation includes treating patients (children and adults) with very serious impairment of the motor and nervous systems, such as patients who have suffered damage to the spinal cord, strokes and other brain conditions, head injuries, damage to peripheral nerves, with upper or lower limb amputations, rheumatologic disorders, muscular and neuromuscular disorders, multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions. All patient treatment is multidisciplinary and team-based.

Certification as a European teaching centre and intensive work on research and teaching have helped make URI-Soča one of the best rehabilitation centres in Europe.
